Walk The Talk With Akhilesh Yadav

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, in a talk with NDTV, opens up about the ongoing State General Assembly Elections and proves ‘Kaam Bolta Hai’. Election campaigns are all about future prospects, grievances, or painting a rosy picture of the next five years for the people. But in this history of Indian politics, he is the only leader who is campaigning on his track records and the development done in the last tenure. Let us see a few bites of the interview; some inspirational, some courageous, some ambitious, but never without a warmth ‘Bhaiya Ji’ exuberates.
Akhilesh Yadav starts by talking about his hectic schedule where he is making 7 appearances in a day, across the state but without a hint of stress on his face. He is not worried about the results because the work done is clearly visible and appreciated by the residents. Akhilesh Yadav highlights the Lucknow Metro which was completed in record time, access controlled Lucknow-Agra Expressway which took just 23 months to finish, 55 lakh beneficiaries of Samajwadi Pension, 18 lakh beneficiaries of Free Laptop Distribution Scheme, 3 lakh houses given under Lohia Awaas Yojna amongst other things.

When discussing the upcoming elections, Samajwadi Party Family Feud cannot be ignored. But the young CM and a thorough family man did not shy away from discussing it either. Being firm on his decisions, he reinstated the fact that he aspired for a ‘clean party’ and had to take certain steps to ensure that happens. But before he could take such hard calls, he had to prove himself as a worker of the society, showcase the development done, and prove himself as a worthy Chief Minister and Party President. With SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s blessings, Akhilesh Yadav has embarked on a journey without looking back and having zero regrets.

He further talks about Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance which has become very popular in Uttar Pradesh. According to the CM, the coalition arose purely out of the will of two young leaders wanting to change the nation, for the better. Seeing this as a long term friendship, Akhilesh Yadav invited Congress party members to the state, to talk to people and understand the needs of Uttar Pradesh better.

On being asked, if he is intimidated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigning in the opposition, Akhilesh Yadav answered with a sense of humour, generally lacking in politicians. He said, he is ready to give an explanation or demonstration of work done in the last five years in return of PM showing the work of his MPs in the state. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also challenged the Modi saying, “If the Prime Minister thinks I’m incompetent, why doesn’t he switch places with me?” Taking a jibe at BJP’s negative comments in roadshows, he showed his disappointment and wishes that the opposition would actually talk about some work done rather than trying to polarise the voters. “It is a sad time for democracy if the PM is popular because of his speeches and shows; but not because of his work.” Narendra Modi, also current MP from Varanasi, has been questioned again and again on the work done by him in his constituency. Akhilesh Yadav has invited Modi to swap places with him if he is unable to answer the public or the government and challenged him for a debate. Will the PM accept UPCM’s invite?

Talking about polarisation in UP polls, Akhilesh sheds light on certain infamous comments made by Narendra Modi in Fatehpur Rally pertaining around ‘Shamshaan’ and ‘Kabristaan’. The Samajwadi Party has given the same treatment and benefits to all sectors of the society without thinking of religion and caste. “We have beautified temples and mosques alike and never instigated a divide,” says Akhilesh Yadav.

Apart from these, the inspirational CM talks about employment opportunities in the state, improved health facilities, and better educational facilities for the youth. On a high spirit, he says, “Only if 50% of the people benefitted by our schemes vote for Samajwadi Party, we will return with full majority.”
This is the most crucial time for the contesting parties but not once can the CM be seen losing his cool or stressing over a discussion. He is ready with his report card which clearly shows the development done in Uttar Pradesh in the last 5 years. These General Assembly Elections are exciting than ever because no one in Indian Politics has ever dared to stand up for polls based on the past track record. Clearly, Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘Kaam Bolta Hai’.
