There had been a time earlier in 2012, when Akhilesh Yadav undertook ‘Kranti Rath Yatra’ to travel the length and breadth of the state and the yatra became noticeable after a few phases. A lot has changed since then! In 2016, Akhilesh Yadav has emerged as an independent leader and has transformed the image of Samajwadi Party into a high-tech, people-friendly party.
Today, amidst the massive gathering of supporters, all eyes are on UPCM Akhilesh. In these five years, the journey has been changed from Kranti (revolution) to Vikas (development).
Today morning, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav embarked on a Vikas Rath, flagged off by Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in Lucknow. The youth icon, Akhilesh Yadav started the Yatra speaking about development and infrastructure projects and social welfare schemes.

The Samajwadi Vikas Rath has been kick-started with a road show from the state capital to the neighbouring district, Unnao. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has been seen in the bus which is decorated with the images of the major schemes and projects launched by Akhilesh Yadav during his tenure: the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Lucknow Metro, Emergency Services for Women Safety and Health like 108 and 1090, Free Laptop Distribution etc. SP’s symbol, the humble cycle, also adorns the bus in the form of a life-size image of Akhilesh Yadav riding it.
Supporters can be seen wearing red t-shirts with Akhilesh Yadav’s photographs and caps that have the Samajwadi Party symbol. At every halt, Akhilesh has been welcomed by youths and farmers.
‘Kaam Bolta Hai’
The Vikas Rath Yatra, has been organised to discuss the agenda of development and other social welfare schemes ahead of elections. ‘This is the time to again come to power’, says Akhilesh and witnessing a huge strength of crowd, he expresses his happiness that the next generation is ready to carry forward the party ideologies.
Lucknow roads have been decorated with banners of the development works during the Yatra and are choked with people and vehicles, hoping to get a glimpse of the dynamic leader. Akhilesh Yadav has scheduled to travel 100 km within Lucknow and Unnao, addressing people on the way. Akhilesh Yadav spoke about his attempts to change the perception about his party of being anti-English and anti-computer party. He also spoke about how he launched English medium government primary schools and distributed laptops to bridge the digital divide.
Meanwhile, along the way, CM Akhilesh Yadav met youth, women groups, members of minority community, farmers and interacted with the public. The entire route of the Yatra has been decked up in bridal colours of party colour red and green, with banners, posters and big hoardings, carrying photographs of Mulayam, Akhilesh and his wife Dimple Yadav, adorning the stretch. The Vikas Rath, aiming to highlight the four-and-a-half-year-old developmental-oriented SP government, is fitted with all modern facilities, apart from Wi-Fi internet connectivity and a mini office for the CM.
In 2011, as Akhilesh addressed the Kranti Rath and the move eventually catapulted to power for the first time when the party won clear majority on the floor of the house with 224 seats. The party hopes to repeat the magic again with the Vikas Rath!
