Higher education is necessary to build stronger economies and to achieve internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families, and communities.
Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a prosperous growth in education in the past four years. The state has earned second position in the number of higher educational institutions and fourth in the number of engineering colleges. The indicators are presenting a way for the next phase of growth in Uttar Pradesh, which has topped all other states in higher education in India.
Uttar Pradesh Way Ahead in Education
Going with the current trends, a recent report generated by CII-Deloitte on the “Annual Status of Higher Education of States and UT’s in India 2016”, Uttar Pradesh ranked first in providing higher education in India.
According to the report, out of the total enrolment of 342.1 lakhs students in higher education institutes in India, Uttar Pradesh ranks first (17.7%), followed by Maharashtra (10.9%), Tamil Nadu (9.8%), West Bengal (5.6%) and Karnataka (5.5%).
The five southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka accounts for nearly one-third of the total enrolments across India, with 19.3% of the country’s share. It’s interesting to notice that the literacy rate of Uttar Pradesh (67.68%) is growing at a fast pace.
Uttar Pradesh’s contribution to Higher Education: The Amazing Figure
Uttar Pradesh contributes a lot in higher education having 23 State-Public Universities, 20 State-Private Universities and 4-Central Universities. You will be amazed to know that the Gross Enrolment Ratio of females to males is 25:24, which shows higher signs of female literacy and their empowerment.
Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has taken historical decisions for ensuring women education, safety and empowerment. The government started multiple schemes for their education, economic independence and health concerns which are now showing results India-wide.
The state of UP is progressing at a significant pace and striving to create more educational institutions and jobs for its students and youth. The launch of Bennett University, Kanya Vidya Dhan and Laptop Distribution Scheme have contributed a lot in raising the higher education bar significantly.
