Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) has been instituted in order to achieve the target to skill over 4 million youth by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan. The State of Uttar Pradesh aims to provide employable skills to the youth of the State. For this, Government of Uttar Pradesh has developed a unique structure for UPSDM. UPSDM is the implementing agency for skill development targeted at enhancing employability in Uttar Pradesh, subsuming the targets of various State Departments such as Rural Development, Urban Development, Labour, Minority Welfare, Social Welfare, etc.

The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has been awarded by the Government of India best state across India in this sector. Uttar Pradesh was awarded at the “Summit cum Awards on Skilling India – The Way Forward”, organised by industry body ASSOCHAM in Delhi on Tuesday, 15th of March. The award was given to UP by Union skill development minister of state Rajeev Pratap Rudy, who praised UP for its efforts in skill development of youth in the state and making them employable across different sectors.

Secretary to department of technical education, Bhuvnesh Kumar, and director of UP’s Skill Development Mission Surendra Singh received the award on behalf of the state. Congratulating UP’s skill development team, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said UP was working continuously to provide jobs to unemployed youth in the state and added that the Samajwadi government in the state had, realising the high potential of this sector, started working on strengthening it.

The mission ensures the youth of Uttar Pradesh who do not want to pursue formal general education after class 5th due to any financial reason, to have fair choices to acquire skills that are relevant to the employers, at a reasonable cost and within reasonable distance from their residence and would have the facility to obtain professional counselling in making good choices based upon their interest and aptitude.

Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) has empanelled Indian Institute of Natural Resources Management (IINREM) as a large Private Training Provider for three years up to 2016-17 for Gautam Budh Nagar, Saharanpur, Banda, Hamirpur and Jalaun districts to train 4500 candidates and facilitate their placement. UPSDM is undertaking to implement UP Skill Development Programme in mission mode with a target of training 23 lakh candidates over the next three years in short term modular courses.
