The Heritage Arc

The Uttar Pradesh Heritage Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Agra to Lucknow and Varanasi in India. The Idea of Heritage Arc was conceived by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, most prominently by Shri Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister of the state which was an important step to promote tourism in the state.

The place is nevertheless the best tourist destination in the state as it is home to one of the 7 wonders of the modern world – The Taj Mahal. The white marble building is a manifestation of true love and art in its best form. Agra even finds a mention in the epic Mahabharata where it is called Agraban (meaning paradise). Other places to visit in Agra are Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort, Tomb of Itmad Ud Daula, Roman Catholic Cemetery, Chini Ka Rauza, Mehtab Bagh etc.

Varanasi is among the oldest living cities in the world and its antiquity finds place in ancient scriptures. Located along the Ganga it is a sacred place for all Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. Places to visit in Varanasi are Ganga River, Sacred Ghats, Sarnath, Kashi Vishwanath Temple etc. Visitors find it difficult which is sweeter – Mithai or Banarsi Paan.

Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, lies in the middle of the Heritage Arc. This bustling city, famed for its Nawabi era finesse and amazing food, is a unique mix of the ancient and the modern. It is home to extraordinary monuments depicting a fascinating blend of ancient, colonial and oriental architecture. Famous attractions in Lucknow are Lucknow Zoo, Hazratganj, Bada Imambada, Chota Imambada, Rumi Darwaza, Chowk etc. The place is famous for its Lakhnawi Chicken embroidered fabrics, exquisite jewellery, heavily decorated bags and World’s famous Awadhi Cuisine.


Mathura, Vrindavan and Ayodhya

Vrindavan and Mathura are the most important places of pilgrimage for devotees of Krishna. Krishna was born in Mathura and spent His childhood in Vrindavan. There are over 5,000 temples in Vrindavan.

Famous for the Holi festival, the lavish temples of Radha-Krishna and the appetizing cuisine, the land of Maakhan and Maakhan Chor – Mathura is one of the most famous tourist places in Uttar Pradesh.

Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Rama and the witness of one of the most crucial event Ramayana, the city is another must visit place in Uttar Pradesh.
