Uttar Pradesh is the most populated state in India with almost 70 percent of population directly or indirectly involved in agriculture. Keeping this fact in mind, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav recently launched the Samajwadi Kisan Evam Sarvahit Bima Yojna (SKESBY). The main objective of this very well thought of scheme is to provide financial and social security to the farmers and weaker sections in the state.
Here are some highlights which make this Yojna the best New Year gift CM Akhilesh Yadav could give to the farmers and the BPL families in Uttar Pradesh.
Empowering Farmers and BPL Families
Samajwadi Kisan Evam Sarvahit Bima Yojna, also known as Samajwadi Insurance Scheme is a financial relief in the form of accident insurance cover to almost 3-crore families of the state making this India’s biggest such scheme. Under this, accidental death of beneficiaries resulting from any reason including snake-bite, dog-bite, gas leakage, fire, flood, earthquake, lightning and road/rail/air mishaps are covered.
Benefits Under Samajwadi Insurance Scheme
Under Samajwadi Insurance Scheme, the insured family is given a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh if the bread earner/head of the family meets an accidental death or is left with permanent disability; and assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh is given if he is left with any accidental injuries. An amount of Rs 1 lakh is also provided towards the cost of artificial limbs if required.
The government has also launched a 24-hour Banking Evam Bima Helpline – 1520 and a toll-free number 1800 3070 1520 has been made available to the farmers in Uttar Pradesh to avail the benefits of the insurance scheme. A dedicated website www.bimacarecard.com has also been created for the convenience of the farmers.
Entitlements Under the Scheme
The beneficiaries who have their names entered into the land records, annual income is less than Rs. 75,000 and age is between 18-70 years are entitled for the benefits of the scheme.
The families have to submit the income-certificate within 45-days of the incident along with the claim form to the insurance company.
BPL families and families that are receiving Samajwadi Pension are not required to submit income-proof certificates to avail this scheme.
Big Insurance Companies Involved
The Directorate of Institutional Finance, Insurance and Externally Aided Project, Uttar Pradesh has been made the nodal agency for implementing this insurance scheme.
After global tenders floated by the UP government, four insurance companies were selected for this scheme:
- The New India Insurance Co Ltd
- The Oriental Insurance Co Ltd
- The United India Insurance
- The National Insurance Co Ltd
These companies have begun work in the state for the scheme’s effective implementation. The state has made a budgetary provision of Rs. 900 crores for the scheme, wherein the entire premium will be paid by the government.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui Supports Samajwadi Kisan Evam Sarvahit Bima Yojna
Akhilesh Yadav has directed the district magistrates to spread awareness for this scheme effectively in the state by using banners and hoardings highlighting SKESBY at important buildings and locations. Gram-Pradhans, Gram Panchayat members and ASHA workers have also been involved to generate awareness for this scheme.
Akhilesh Yadav government also collaborated with artist/actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and made him the brand ambassador for this massive Yojna. Nawazuddin Siddiqui thanked the chief minister for choosing him to be the connecting face and force and said, “He was happy as his forefathers have been farmers.”
A plastic card has also been issued to the beneficiaries which will have details of all family members who are covered in the scheme.
Uttar Hamara feels that CM Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Insurance Scheme will prove to be a great support and strength to the BPL families and all the hardworking, valuable farmers of the state.
