In a major boost for the famous perfume industry of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of an international perfume museum and gifted a package of 256 development projects to the tune of 1164.56 crore to Kannauj.
World Class Perfume Unit
The perfume project would provide a world-class platform to the Ittar (perfume) manufacturers to showcase their age-old skills and to upgrade their skills according to the changing times.
Kannauj has traditionally been a manufacturing centre for natural perfumes and essence which are prepared from flowers and natural extracts oil. Different kinds of products such as mehendi paste, body oil, ayurvedic medicines, and gulkand are made from fragrance and essence of flowers like rose and jasmine.
To be developed by Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC), the project includes a special perfume manufacturing zone in Kannauj for modern distillation and extraction units in addition to international perfume museum, which will house various varieties of fragrances.
Once the project is completed it would rejuvenate the old glory of Kannauj as a fragrance hub besides increasing the export of locally made perfumes.
For the 256 projects worth Rs 1,164 crore include
- Laying the foundation stones of international perfume museum and park and 1-lakh litre capacity cow milk plant of worth Rs140 crore.
- Distribution of 568 laptops to students
3. Distribution of Tongas
4. Distribution of 71 e-rickshaws
5. 300 Lohia Awas, Samajwadi Pension cheques to 500 beneficiaries.
6. Bicycles to 500 labourers engaged in construction work
7. Solar power packs to 460 beneficiaries.
Amid chants of ‘once again’ from his supporters, CM Akhilesh Yadav said that the onus is on you people to translate these words into reality. And workers screamed ‘once again’ in unison.
