Standing to the west of Bara Imambara in Lucknow, Rumi Darwaza is a surprizing 60 feet grand gateway which was built under the patronage of Nawab Asaf-Ud-dowlah in 1784. This architectural marvel is also known as Turkish Gate and is one of the most visited spots in Lucknow. The grand structure comprises of a ‘Chhatri’ or an umbrella that can be accessed by a fleet of stairs.
On top of the Rumi Darwaza there is a huge lantern that would light up the structure at night making it look like a gateway to Paradise. The beautifully carved flowers and designs speak about the unique architectural style and eye for detail. The Rumi Darwaza is truly a breath-taking site and must visit if you are traveling Lucknow.
