Our person of the week is Suhas LY, who has clinched the Gold in the Asian Para-Badminton Championship held in Beijing.
Suhas is an IAS officer posted in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. He got a wildcard entry to the championships and ensured his feat in the finals by winning six consecutive matches.
“It is a wonderful feeling. I can’t explain in words. We woke up to the gold news. I offered special prayers for his victory. His hard work and dedication to badminton materialised his dream to win the gold,” his wife Ritu Suhas says.
Suhas practised with some local badminton enthusiasts after office every day at a stadium in Azamgarh. In case players failed to turn up, he practised with his wife. He was a part of the 26-member Indian team that landed in the Chinese capital to participate in the tournament.
Locals praise Suhas as a suave officer who is known to attend every visitor from rural areas.
