Aparna Kumar, who has become the First Lady IPS Officer to Scale Mount Everest, is our Person of the Week. Aparna, a 2002 batch UP IPS officer scaled Mount Everest on 21st of May at around 11:02 am in her third attempt. In her previous two attempts, an avalanche in 2014 and an earthquake in 2015 prevented her from completing her quest.
Aparna is the recipient of the 2015 ‘Rani Lakshmi Bai Puraskar’. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav bestowed this honour for her achievements in March 2015.
With Mount Everest under her belt, Aparna has also become the first civil servant to scale the highest peaks of six out of seven continents.
