Uttar Pradesh may well be headed for a triangular contest in the assembly polls due next year, with the ruling Samajwadi Party holding a slight edge over main rivals BJP and BSP, according to an ABP News-Lokniti-CSDS survey.
Around 30% of voters, surveyed from July 23 to August 7, said they would vote for SP if elections were held right now. As far as the seat projection for the 403-member House is concerned, the survey gives SP a slender lead with about 141-151 seats as the single largest party. With 124-134 seats, BJP does better than Mayawati’s BSP. It gives Congress 8-14 seats.
BJP is the choice of 27% of the voters, followed by BSP at 26%. Congress lags way behind with a mere 5% vote share.
