Mewat farmers may get Agra canal water

CHANDIGARH: Haryana proposes to treat the Agra canal water to make it available for irrigation purposes to farmers in Mewat. This was stated by T V S N Prasad, additional chief secretary, finance, in Nuh on Sunday. He added that the area under drip irrigation would also be increased to 8,000 acres from the present 7,000 acres.

He directed the officers concerned to ensure that benefits of the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme reach each farmer. For the purpose of awareness, periodic meetings should be held with progressive farmers so that maximum benefits of these schemes are availed by them. Area under Dhencha farming should also be increased from 380 hectares to 600 hectares. Prasad said the purpose of this kind of meeting is to prepare a roadmap for the development of Mewat area with mutual suggestions and consent. There won’t be any lack of funds for development works, he added.

Soon shortage of staff will be fulfilled by outsourcing or through any other process and doctors will also be appointed, he said and added that all waste management plants would be geo-tagged soon.
