If the announcement of free laptops to all Class XII pass-outs proved to be a game-changer for Akhilesh Yadav in the 2012 assembly elections, it could be free mobile phones in 2017 polls. At a function to launch a private telecom company’s 4-G roll-out on Wednesday, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that Samajwadi Party might consider announcing free distribution of handsets for the common man in its manifesto for the 2017 elections.

 He emphasised that his party symbolises benefit for all, so the 4G connectivity should be available to all, especially the poor who cannot not afford it.
