With Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 around the corner, the district administration in Kanpur is coming up with various ways to motivate voters in the city to cast their votes. It is now set to rope in wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat to appeal to the masses to cast their votes in the upcoming elections.
District Magistrate and Chief Election Officer, Kanpur district, Kaushal Raj Sharma, says, “I came to know that wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat will be coming to a school in the city on January 29 for a motivational session with the students. In order to make the most of their visit, we have decided to request them to urge city folk to exercise their right to vote this election. After the release of Dangal, which is based on their lives, both Geeta and Babita are being considered role models. We plan to shoot a video of both the wrestlers, in which they will be appealing to the masses to vote.“ He adds, “This video would be shown in cinema halls to complement the voter motivation programs that we would be organizing before the elections.“
Apart from the two wrestlers, the district administration in Kanput is also working upon to rope in a few Indian cricketers for the initiative. “Kanpur is hosting a T20 cricket match between India and England on January 26. We will be requesting few cricketers from the Indian team to also shoot a motivational video for the elections. Sportspersons are the best role models for the masses and if they appeal to them, the voting percentage will surely go up these elections,“ adds Sharma.
