Just a couple of months ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Akhilesh Yadav government today gave a salary bonanza to lakhs of its employees by implementing the Seventh Pay Commission recommendation.
The Samajwadi Party government’s move will directly benefit over 16 lakh employees of the state. The state government may be accused by the Opposition of indulging in populism to woo the lakhs of voters before the elections.
The Akhilesh government is facing anti-incumbency and it is also struggling with the internal feud in the Yadav family. The decision to implement the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations in the state was taken in the cabinet meeting today. The recommendations will be implemented from January 1, 2017.
