5 CRORE SAPLINGS – CM EYES GUINNESS TAG
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his parliamentarian wife Dimple Yadav will participate in a mega plantation drive on Monday to boost UP government’s ‘Clean UP, Green UP’ mission. The drive is set to find a place in Guinness Book of World Record as 5 crore saplings will be planted in a day. Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav will also take part in the event.
Akhilesh will plant saplings at Bahadurpur in Rasoolabad area of Kanpur Dehat district while his wife Dimple, SP MP from Kannauj, will attend a similar event at Chhibramau area of her constituency. SP chief will plant a sapling at Kukrail forest reserve in the state capital.
Forest department has identified 6,166 sites in the state where the plantation drive will be held. Around seven crore saplings have been raised in 950 nurseries across the state to prepare for the chief minister’s ambitious green mission. The forest department has made arrangements to upload online pictures of the plantation drive across the state. Officials confirmed that Guinness records’ auditors had already reached the sites. The audit will be done by a third agency which has involved teachers, students and non-governmental organisations in this exercise.
It is the first time the state government has roped in he Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for carrying out carbon sequestration connected with the exercise
