India is still a highly rural-driven market and the ability to spend on kitchen utensils of convenience is not that high in the rural economy. Perhaps, no government in the past has actually thought of the most important part of a home and its convenience. Yes, we mean the kitchen.
When Samajwadi Party came into power in 2012, Akhilesh Yadav was given the opportunity to serve the people of the state. His government launched and implemented schemes for every section of the society, including farmers, youth, poor, weak, minorities, women, businessmen, and entrepreneurs. The government were determined towards their goal of empowering urban and rural women equally.
Keeping these goals in mind, a wide range of women centric policies have come up in the Samajwadi Party’s newly released manifesto for UP Assembly 2017 elections. Some major benefits for women in the manifesto include increasing the Samajwadi Pension beneficiaries from 55 lakhs to 1 crore, providing free wheat and rice under Antyodaya Yojna and giving poor women free pressure cookers. But one thing that comes first to our mind is that why the party has included pressure cookers in their 2017 manifesto?
Why Pressure Cooker in Akhilesh’s Election Manifesto?
Akhilesh Yadav has completely understood the basic needs of rural women as well as their consumer behaviour. He thought to gift pressure cookers to rural women because of the two major reasons: Firstly, the rural poor can’t afford pressure cooker as a part of their kitchenware. Secondly, companies do not make cheap pressure cookers because if they do, it means it has to be thinner and thinner cookers may be less safe.
Isn’t It Like a Blessing!
Getting pressure cookers for free is like a blessing for rural women that will make their lives much easier. We all know that eating foods that are pressure cooked offers more nutritional boost than those cooked for longer periods using traditional cookware. Moreover, it will save time and energy in preparing food.
According to the party manifesto, the Akhilesh Yadav government will provide free food (rice and wheat) and the pressure cookers. Now the poor will just have to cook food to sustain their living.
These kinds of initiatives are significant growth vectors in rural areas. The economy works like a key driver and sooner we get out of the current difficult situation, the better for us. In a state like Uttar Pradesh, where 60% of the population depends upon agriculture, the pressure cooker initiative will ensure better growth.
Uttar Hamara appreciates the efforts of Akhilesh Yadav government that have made rural lives sustainable and convenient. Like Samajwadi Pension Yojna, this initiative will also be a live changing experience for rural women and their families!
