The shops would be given to women to manage and would be primarily of feminine interest, including cosmetics, boutiques and parlours.
Gomtinagar, Lucknow is a home to high end premium residential projects, malls, business centres, special economic zones, stadiums, entertainment centres and food courts. Within this hustle and bustle, Akhilesh government has a gift for women entrepreneurs. The plan is to revive the huts near Samta Mulak Crossing in Gomtinagar popularly known as Marine Drive of Lucknow. Special ‘Mahila Bazars’ would be set up near the crossing, where women entrepreneurs will get space to showcase their wares and handicrafts.
Special Space for Women
Following the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s announcement, the Department of Tourism in association with Lucknow Development Authority has declared that a ‘Mahila-Bazar’ would soon start in the area. The street has dozens of granite stalls in a row where the shops would be set up. The street will become functional on this Independence Day and women from across the state will get an opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial skills.
Details of the Project
The Lucknow Development Authority has worked upon the details of this plan to find out how many women can be accommodated, what they all can sell and whether the rent would be applicable or not. The by-laws do not allow a shutter kind of establishment though the traders and shopkeepers can always sell in open spaces and stalls during day time and wind up by evening.
These women bazars will help in utilizing the one kilometre of roadside area that has been lying idle since 2010. The officials of LDA said that the by-laws can also be changed as per the comfort of women entrepreneurs.
Due to certain technicalities, the shops failed to do well in the past. But now, Akhilesh Yadav government have come up with a well-planned framework where the women entrepreneurs can sell their handicrafts. There is also a provision of food stalls in the plan.
One More ‘Haat’ this Year
Lucknow will see the launch of one more Haat (open bazar) this year. Apart from Lucknow Haat, which is spread across 25 acres in Vibhuti Khand of Gomtinagar, people will witness one more ‘Haat’ named as ‘Avadh Shilp Gram’ near Shaheed Path where various artworks and handicrafts would soon be on display.
