Lucknow Metro is being hailed as one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by Akhilesh Yadav government in the city of Lucknow. With an aim to bring world-class infrastructure to the most important city of trade and service, government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to implement Lucknow Metro Rail Project as an integrated mass public transport system that meets the mobility and accessibility needs of the people of Lucknow.

As Lucknow is witnessing a swift rise in the number of immigrants, the mass rapid transport system therefore, is need of the hour. The Lucknow Metro system, when completed, will be the fastest and most economical high speed rapid transit system project in India.

Best Metro for Excellence in Innovative Designs

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has been recognized and awarded for “Best Metro for Excellence in Innovative Designs” in the fifth Annual Metro Rail Summit – 2016 recently held in New Delhi. The summit was attended by many Metro Rail organizations like Jaipur Metro, Mumbai Metro, L&T Metro Rail, and RVNL alongside advisors and producers connected with rail ventures across the nation.

LMRC was awarded on the basis of innovation and addressing particular difficulties over the key perspectives like money, arrangement, portability, flagging, operations, control, security, and upkeep.

Design and Signalling

French Multinational Alstom is manufacturing the Metro train at its facility in South India and has won the contract of providing signalling and train sets for Lucknow Metro.

The front of the Metro has been ideated to portray the essence of some of Lucknow’s most iconic monuments including Bara Imambara, Asifi mosque and the Rumi Gate, which is the signature edifice of the city. The Metro train’s exterior livery in golden hue is inspired by the traditional Chikankari craft of Lucknow. The blending of black in front is inspired from the modern feel of Hazratganj, Lucknow’s main commercial hub in the heart of city. The name of stations will be displayed in English, Urdu, and Hindi on LCD screens.

Lucknow Metro is planned to include two corridors – North South and East West respectively. The North-South corridor will have a total of 22 stations and connect Amausi airport to Munshipulia and cover a distance of 23 kilometres while the  East-West corridor will have a total of 12 stations and connect Charbagh to Vasant Kunj with a total length of 11 kilometres.

Other Metro Projects

Under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh is fortunate for the number of Metro projects in process. Besides Lucknow, other cities like Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra and Meerut will also have metros very soon.

Growing population and huge traffic has called for the transformation of private modes of conveyance to public transport, and Uttar Hamara feels that Akhilesh Yadav government has set up a perfect plan to meet the mobility demands of people of Lucknow.
