Most people enjoy their retired life with their pension money, but not Bhagguram Maurya of Hirampur, Uttar Pradesh. Bhagguram served the country with the Indian Army all his life and retired in 2012. He also won two President Awards in 2002 and 2012 respectively for his bravery. President Pranab Mukherjee conferred him with Lieutenant’s title in 2012.
What makes him different is his humanity and thoughtfulness towards other people. Bhagguram used his PF money which he received after working his entire life to construct a road in his village to make life easier for the residents.
His biggest challenge was to get the farmers to give him part of their land to pave this path, he says. But where there is a will, there is a way; literally in this case. Almost 20 farmers gave consent to this retired army lieutenant who then went onto make a 10 feet wide and one-kilometre-long road with 4 lakh rupees from his provident fund. But this is not all, to ensure proper water distribution in the area, he also provided an underground pipe line to facilitate the same.
Uttar Hamara salutes Bhagguram who is continuing to serve and inspire people, even today!
