The compassionate side of the young and enterprising Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav often loses on to grasping media attention. Behind this hard task master and tech-savvy CM, lies a person with a heart of gold. Akhilesh who is often called a people-friendly chief minister is known to reach out to the common man and extend every possible help in times of need and emergency.

According to a recent information accessed by The Indian Express under RTI Act from CM’s office, since coming to power in 2012, Akhilesh has spent over three times more of what BSP Chief, Mayawati had distributed in her five-year tenure as Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister.

Under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, funds have been distributed for treatment, to families of those who were murdered, who died in accidents, committed suicide and those who died “untimely”. Akhilesh government had spent Rs. 105 crore in the financial year 2014-15 and distributed over Rs. 300 crore from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund in less than four years. Those given financial assistance also included police, central forces and Indian army personnel from the state, who died on duty.
