Samajwadi Party government under the dynamic leadership of Akhilesh Yadav has taken many initiatives to empower digital growth in Uttar Pradesh. The first step towards creating a digital revolution in Uttar Pradesh was taken in 2012 when Chief Minister distributed free laptops to meritorious students across rural and urban UP.

With a vision to bridge the digital divide in rural UP, Akhilesh government has announced ‘Free Mobile Handsets Scheme’ in their Party manifesto for 2017 elections.

Connecting People with Government

The government has decided to start Samajwadi Smart Phone scheme to build a two-way communication between the government and people and take direct feedback on government schemes. This will provide an easy medium to the residents of the state to avail benefits of various schemes of state government. The smartphone will have a detailed app through which all the information about state government will be provided to people by using audio-visual texts. The Smart Phone Yojna would help government in getting timely feedback from the public in the age of information technology. The app will also provide agricultural information about best practices, dairy related information, along with prevailing market prices.

Selection of Beneficiaries

The online registration for the scheme has been started and is being provided on first come, first serve basis. The government employees and their wards are not eligible for this scheme. The eligibility criteria to avail ‘Samajwadi Smartphone Scheme’ is as under:

  1. Applicant should be a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  2. Applicant should be minimum 18 years of age as on January 01, 2017.
  3. Minimum educational qualification should be High School.
  4. Applicant or his/her guardian should not be government employee of Grade-I and Grade-II.
  5. Annual income of the family should be less than INR 6 lakhs.

The applicants would be asked to attach a scanned copy of their high-school certificates with the application.

Benefits for Students, Farmers and Unemployed

The smartphones will have a special application for those wishing to apply for different jobs by giving them updated information about the openings. For students, the phone will have applications giving information about admissions, results as well as study material. The mobile phone will also have an app for providing information beneficial for farmers, villagers, unemployed, students and schemes meant for small traders.

Uttar Hamara feels that this new ‘Smart Phone Scheme’ of Uttar Pradesh government will establish new dimensions of development and awareness!
