While launching the scheme to boost Khadi with the help of NIFT Rae Bareli, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced “free-power loom” for weavers’ machines and proposed two more NIFT, in Lucknow and Noida. He also distributed 75 power-loom machines for Bundelkhand region – 50 for Jhansi and 25 for Banda at the event.
Efforts made by NIFT Rae Bareli for promoting Khadi
CM feels that there is a need to do more research and also marketing and branding of Khadi, which would be done with the help of NIFT, Rae Bareli students. The students have promoted Khadi as an ethnic dress material by making it more attractive and full of colours. Appreciating the good work done by NIFT, CM said, “We need more NIFT like institutions in the state.” For this, Uttar Pradesh government is ready to provide land to set up NIFT either in Lucknow or in Noida.
Free-charkhas for Bundelkhand
Khadi needs a vital push and Uttar Pradesh government has announced free charkhas to the drought-hit people of Bundelkhand. This will make Khadi popular at village level and help Bundelkhand people earn.
Khadi Units creating job opportunities
Last year, Uttar Pradesh government had established 1,478 new Khadi units providing job opportunity to 29,000 people. During the current fiscal year, government has set a target of establishing 3,000 more units in Uttar Pradesh, which will create 60,000 jobs. A research centre is also being established in Kushinagar.
